Brad Pitt’s ‘F1’ Delivers Apple’s First Box Office Hit With $55.6 Million Debut, ‘M3GAN 2.0’ Fizzles With $10 Million

Brad Pitt may be racing into theatres with his latest Hollywood outing, F1, but Indian moviegoers have already waved the checkered flag in favour of a 2007 Bollywood classic: Ta Ra Rum Pum. Released in India on June 27, F1 follows Pitt as a former Formula One driver making a high-stakes return to the racing world to save a struggling team.

fter beginning its filming in 2023, F1: The Movie finally arrived

There have certainly been much worse starts for a highly-budgeted “event” film. Apple certainly remembers Argylle last year ($17.4 million opening), even with the disputes over its final price tag. It didn’t exactly take much to be declared the biggest opening for an Apple Original Film. Pixar’s worst opening in their history last week still would have been the second best weekend for Apple going into this weekend after Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon ($23.2 million). Plus, among the roughly 108 films with a budget at least as high as F1, there are at least 69 and maybe as many as 76 films (depending on final tallies Monday) that had a better opening.

Conclusion

The movie is definitely riding on the increased popularity of F1 in US post Drive to Survive series.

A definite watch for anyone who has followed or watched F1 anytime. The race commentary is also customized for any F1 noob to understand some basics (eg., warm tyres provide better grip, pitstop importance etc.)
